Some correction:

As it seems this is not needed. What is important that your locally 
created files should be writable by the group BEFORE you upload them. 
So you can do an umask locally or manually change the permissions for 
newly created files. This is important as if you upload a file that is 
not writable by the group, nobody can modify (upload a new version) 
except of you!

As I said, this might be a local problem. Try with a clean kdewebdev 
checkout.
