[kdewebdev-site] Weekend update

Hi all,
This is to bring everyone up to date... I talked with George last night and
I'm currently working on getting the new virtual server up to date. The
virtual server is running PHP5 and I want to upgrade it to Apache2 with
Subversion for WebDAV. I would like to start working with these features in
Quanta so that we might not only benefit from them but also be able to
enhance Quanta in how it uses them. My objective is to switch over to this
server as soon as possible.

On our present server... I finally read the Debian manpages instead of
flipping back to my Gentoo manpage and I find there is a rather odd sentence
in there... My sudo authorization was adequate with adduser to give everyone
full privileges for both upload and CVS access. If you have been granted a
user account and cannot use this it is because you are inactive. Send me an
email and I'll fix it. I added our two new accounts and fixed Andras and Dave
so they have full access.

My policy on upload is as follows: I prefer to review and upload things, but
I'm not married to it. I am always at my computer on DSL at least every 12
hours. So it's not like it will be a long time. However if you do want to
upload here are the guidelines. As long as you are not breaking CSS and are
confident about your content, if you just can't wait, go ahead. However the
following should be fairly obvious, but I'll state it anyway.
1) Always update before committing so you don't overwrite other's work. If you
need to resolve conflicts you know what to do. (Whenever you don't know what
do to then of course ask here.)
2) Always commit before uploading! Otherwise if you have uploaded something
good it will be lost and we will be hunting you down to recover content.
3) Always observe strict markup and make sure your work is W3C compliant.
4) Always observe PHP design direction of the project and make sure to follow
good form. This means a good object model where desired consistency is
centrally linked and distinctiveness is well managed. Note what has been done
so far.

I ask that if you are on the list you join me in reviewing commits. In fact if
someone wants the task of site validity tester that is something I would
welcome. Quality control is important.

Here are some things for people wanting to work on something.
1) The image header is not consistent on the main site.
2) The quanta subdomain needs to be started like Kommander and it has a
masthead for use.
3) If there are 64x64 images for other applications we should get and use
them. I can make the gimp xcf file available if we want to add something that
big to CVS or you can send me the image.
4) The developer subdomain should begin having a layout, optionally it could
be different. I'm open to suggestions.
5) We should probably create a developer.kdewebdev.org/site/ area where we can
post policies and information so it is static and accessible for people
joining this list.
6) FAQ entries can be done for other applications.
7) We can set up to display common and application specific FAQ entries on the
FAQ pages for subdomains, but as all this will be easier when we go to PHP5
we can wait for that.

Andras, please make sure any width layout changes are not in CVS at this time.
We can look at the other options.

I have a weekend show for Kitty Hooch this weekend and I start back to the
Portland Saturday Market next weekend. I have a lot of things almost done,
not the least of which is that I have only one grueling debug session to get
my web based sales into high gear. I urgently need this and it has been
keeping me from taking steps that would probably double my income. I am also
trying to get my cat furniture inventory going as this has a large income
potential too. We have a show coming up in Los Angeles California in less
than two months which will have the obvious expenses and hopefully gret
potential. Yesterday lack of sleep and distraction left me so irritable... I
don't want to say what I did, but I will say I don't ever remember being so
irritable as I'm usually quite pleasant. So I plan to go to the gym and spend
the rest of the day and weekend working on cat furniture... something
physical and hopefully relaxing. I will check and upload if I need to.

I hope in the next week or two to be able to move to the other server. I will
check emails here.
