I know what you mean. :-D

PHP5 looks like it's done much, much better with XML, but PHP4 is/was 
just ....ick, IMO.

Basically, my XML is just XHTML 1.0 Strict, minus <head>, plus <i18n>. Then 
you regex it, changing <i18n> to <?php i18n(" and </i18n> to "); ?> and 
adding includes for the header and footer.
