Unfortunately being in KDE doesn't solve this problem, and the recent
MDK10 problem shows this. They packaged KDE 3.2.1 not from the release
tag, but from the state of the CVS from some days after the release was
tagged. The problem here was on both sides, as yes, BRANCH is supposed
to be stable, buy yes, you can make mistakes when backporting stuff and
by bad luck they've taken a version which was broken. But that
brokeness was corrected after some hours! My real problem with distros
doing like this is that they still call their version 3.2.1. Well,
don't do that. If you take it from CVS call it post 3.2.1 or CVS stable
or whatever, but not 3.2.1. That one is reserved for only one version,
which is what is released on the KDE FTP servers.
I learned from this an now for 3.2.2 I changed the version string as
soon as I have noticed that the release was really tagged. Still,
distros might update in the period when the release was really tagged
and I notice the tag, as no mails are sent when a file is really tagged
(logical, otherwise we would be flooded) and even if the release dude
says that he starts tagging on Saturday, due to the large amount of
files it can take many hours, even days if some problem comes in.
OK, regarding to the website: if we have a FAQ, we should put a section
in the FAQ with specific issues with a specific distro. Adding also a
news item when the problem is noticed is also a good idea.
Happy Easter for everyone celebrating it!
